Many of our students say the best part of Writing In Depth classes is the
feedback on their draft manuscripts.
Students are asked to work on a story of their choice: novel, nonfiction, picture
book, poetry, magazine article, whatever you are interested in writing. If you
are not sure where to start, we can help.
While no one but an editor for a specific publication or publishing house can tell
you if your manuscript will be published, many Writing In Depth students have
published their first stories after workshopping in our classes.
Classes feature one or more lessons each week on the fundamental principles of
control and crafting. Students are encouraged to read each other's stories and
offer feedback based on the weekly lessons.
We try to teach the kind of classes that we always wanted to take as struggling
writers, and our goal is to help new students polish their talent. Our classes are
an opportunity for writers to create a fertile space where new voices and visions
are explored and grown. Each student is encouraged to take an imaginative
approach to his or her craft.
Classes are designed in a way that students can work at their own pace, writing
a little or a lot. Ideas are treated as organic experiment; some fail and some fly,
but most are challenged, tweaked and reworked. The class is meant to be an
incubator of raw talent.
An explanation of the online classroom experience: The advantage of meeting
online is that there is no specific or set class time. Our classroom is open 24
hours a day, 7 days a week.
